BTW FWIW - In agreement with most on here. I think Zouma is going to be a beast for us.

I think he was right to show him inside. What baffled me was Rice's involvement. He was the player on the inside of Zouma and so should've stepped across to block. But when you watch it again i can't for the life of me work out what Rice was doing. It's like Zouma showed Lingard the inside and then Rice was doing the same. He is going completely the wrong way and almost steps out of the way of the shot. If you are on the inside and your team-mate shows an opponent the inside then you are the one that steps in to shut down.

I know its all fine margins and things happen in the blink of an eye. But if Rice did his job at that moment I am sure he blocks it.

Not digging him out. He had a really good game. It's more of an observation. But the more I watch it the more confused I am with what Rice did.

But there you go.

I questioned him after showing Jesse inside, but I think Lingard has more than enough ability to have shot with his left. sometimes you just have to acknowledge a great finish

Re: Kurt Zouma - Signed
Zouma’s made a solid start to his career with us and looks like he’ll be a great signing. He was very vocal too, which will help loads.

Anyone picking holes is clearly looking for problems. Lingard’s goal was just a great strike. It happens.

I thought Zouma looked great overall. Re the goal, I thought at the time. (have not seen replays) that he headed out when he didn't need to but that's a communication thing between him and Fabianski.

Re: Kurt Zouma - Signed
Looking at the slagging off of some of our other players for the "odd" mistake I deduce that Zouma is absolutely crap because he let Lingard inside to shoot!

Seriously liked the look of him yesterday and as said below loved the way he was chatting and organising those around him. A potential captain for when Rice flees the nest!

Veracity in his tackles was great to watch.

He'll be great for us

One thing I noticed, there was a brief moment when the camera was on him, and he was directing Oggy and Coufal, which I liked A LOT.

Re: Kurt Zouma - Signed
I know Fabianski made some decent saves but he spilled Ronaldo's effort leading to the goal and for Lingard he was on his knee.

Surely to Christ Areola needs to start now

Re: Kurt Zouma - Signed
Lingard can't have that much space in the box in the first place. It's on the midfield but it's harsh to blame them either as they were knackered.

ouma was an absolute beast. Looks to be another great signing by Moyes.

Having looked at the goal again.

To me it just looks like well taken goal yt Lingaard and don't really blame any of our players.

Re: Kurt Zouma - Signed
The main criticism of Zouma for the goal for me is he qlows himself to get squared up and flat footed so when Lingard shifts the ball he can't react...letting him come inside like that would be the equivalent of letting Yarma shift into his left in a similar position. He had by and large a great game, but he should have shaped to show Lingard to the line, and the challenge on Ronaldo at the end was a stonewall penalty.

We looked stronger with him there though, very imposing and a big physical presence alongside Ogbonna. Will only get better for us.

He was also vocal talking to the other defenders, organizing the defense. I like to see that.

We knew we were getting a top CB, and that's exactly what he is. I noticed how calm he is on the ball, even inside his own area. A great attribute to have that.

Re: Kurt Zouma - Signed
If Fabianski had done his job and came out and caught the ball then Lingard's goal does not happen.

Agreed, it wasn’t Zouma at fault.

Superb finish though

"Zouma played well but gave Lingard too much space for the goal."

Just watched it back a few times. Looks more like Rice at fault than Zouma.
